Dad who died in BMW crash 'would do anything for anyone', partner says in tribute

The partner of a man who died in a serious collision with a wall says he 'was the type of person who would do anything for anyone'.

Police said a BMW crashed into a wall in Heanor Gate Road in Heanor on Saturday (September 4).

Driver, James Hopkinson, from Heanor, died at the scene despite attempts by paramedics to save him.

His partner Kirsty Guilar said she had a feeling that day "something wasn't right", and that she's tried to explain the heart-breaking news to their young daughter.

Ms Guilar said: “James was the type of person who would do anything for anyone. He worked non-stop but always made time for his family. We will miss him so much.

“I just had a feeling that evening that something wasn’t right but to be honest the news is still sinking in.

“I’ve tried to explain to our little girl what has happened, but she just thinks the angels are going to bring her Daddy back when he’s better. He always said he wanted to provide a good life for our daughter, and he did. We are absolutely devastated.”

Mr Hopkinson, who was 29 when he died, also leaves behind his mum and step dad, dad and step mum, nine brothers and sisters.

He was also incredibly close to his cousin who was like a brother to him.

The collision was reported to Derbyshire police at around 6.35pm on Saturday (September 4).

Police shared the photo of Mr Hopkinson with the blessing of his partner.

In a statement, the force added: "Our thoughts remain with Kirsty and James’ family and friends at this time.

"Enquiries are still ongoing into the circumstances of the collision and a file is being prepared for the coroner."

Anyone with information which may help the police is asked to contact Derbyshire Constabulary on 101, quoting reference 21000514486.

The force can also be contacted by its official Facebook and Twitter accounts and its website.
