Dad uses his own baby as a human shield before police shoot him with stun gun

Shocking footage shows the moment a dad used his baby son as a human shield before being shot with a stun gun by police.

The man, Brandon Loehner, had been reported to the police by his girlfriend for abducting their one-year-old son at gunpoint.

Officers spotted the suspect driving wildly along with the baby on his lap.

He refused to pull over, speeding and even crossing into oncoming traffic.

Loehner finally turned into a shopping centre and parked near a McDonald’s drive-thru, exiting the vehicle while still holding the boy.

In the footage you can see Loehner refusing to put the child down, dangling him by his arms as the police advance tasers raised.

The officers were supported by a police dog unit.

After a brief standoff, a stun gun is fired and Loehner goes down thankfully turning so he appears not to fall on the baby.

An officer immediately picks up the child in a nappy and tried to comfort him.

The incident happened in Florida, near Palm Coast.

Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said: “Here is a case of a domestic situation turning violent, putting a one-year-old child and innocent drivers in danger.

“Deputies were confronted with a very chaotic situation and a very combative individual that was putting his child at risk by using the child as a shield.

"Our deputies did everything they could to quickly rescue this child safely from a madman and apprehend the suspect.”

The child was returned to his mum and Loehner was charged with kidnapping, using a minor as a shield, resisting with violence, child neglect, fleeing and eluding and reckless driving.

He also needed to be treated for injuries sustained from the police dog during arrest.
