Dad used dummy to feed ice to baby, police allege

A father has been charged after allegedly contaminating his baby daughter's dummy with the drug ice on the New South Wales-Victoria border.

Police said the four-month-old girl was treated at the Albury Base Hospital last month after being admitted for an unknown illness.

Pathology tests revealed she had amphetamine and methylamphetamine in her system.

NSW Health referred the case to the State Crime Command's Child Abuse Squad.

Squad detectives and local police arrested the 24-year-old man on Wednesday morning, after a short pursuit on foot in North Albury.

"Police will allege the ice was administered to the baby via a contaminated dummy," Acting Detective Inspector Peter Owen said.

The baby has fully recovered but was in a serious condition for four days, police said.

The man, who cannot be named, appeared in an Albury court charged with using poison to endanger life or inflict grievous harm.

"I just don't understand this whole f***ing shit really," the man said.

"The DPP's just bullshit, just a joke really."

He was remanded in custody and will return to court in Albury next week.
