The dad-of-two tragically stabbed to death in South Dublin has been named locally as Derek Reddin.
The 31-year-old was pronounced dead following an alleged altercation on Loughlinstown Drive at around 12.30am on Tuesday morning.
Gardai, including officers with medical equipment, rushed to the scene where Mr Reddin was pronounced dead, Dublin Live reports.
His body remained at the spot throughout the morning as gardai carried out a full forensic examination.
Fine Gael's Jennifer Carroll MacNeil has said the community is still in shock since the news broke.
The local councillor told Dublin Live: "It's a very very peaceful area, Loughlinstown and Ballybrack are really established, stable, peaceful communities and it's a huge shock for locals.
"Where it happened was on a main road at the entrance to Loughlinstown Drive from Wyattville.
"It's very sad for the family and locals are reeling. We're all shocked and trying to piece it together."
Two men were arrested and detained in Shankill Garda Station while an appeal for witnesses was also issued.
A garda spokesperson said: "A man in his 30s has died following a fatal stabbing incident in Loughlinstown, Co Dublin.
"Shortly after midnight Gardaí were called to the scene of an incident on Loughlinstown Drive, were a man in his 30s was discovered with apparent stab wounds.
"Members of the Armed Support Unit, local Garda units and Emergency Services attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.
"Two men, also in their 30s, have since been arrested by investigating Gardaí and are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Shankill Garda Station.
"The body of the deceased man remains at the scene which is currently preserved for technical and forensic examination.
"The office of the State Pathologist has been notified and an incident room has been established Shankill Garda Station."
