Dad took last breath as daughter said 'I do' at his bedside during hospital wedding

A dad took his last breath as his daughter said 'I do' in an emotional bedside wedding.

Natalie Hoskinson, from Kewarra Beach, Queensland, Australia, brought her wedding forward so her dad David could see her exchange vows before he died.

She was heartbroken when her dad's nurse Jude told the family that David would 'never wake again' after he was taken to hospital and sedated as a result of his cancer.

Natalie was desperate for her 73-year-old father to be there for her wedding with Tim, who she had been engaged to for three years.

The 37-year-old called her best friend Todd, a celebrant, and asked him to wed her and Tim at Cairns Private Hospital the next day.

In a heartwarming surprise, Jude organised a bridal bouquet and a make-up artist for Natalie, who raced home to grab her wedding dress before the ceremony began.

Wearing her white gown, she stepped into the hospital hallway with her nieces Jasmine, eight, and Freya, six, by her side.

Natalie said: "The sun streamed through the window and a red carpet led to where Tim waited, with Todd strumming a guitar next to him.

"Mum walked me down the aisle past the weeping nurses to where dad lay in his bed. 'Look dad, your little girl is a bride,’ I whispered, giving him a hug.

"And just as I turned to face Tim, Dad let out what sounded like a sigh of happiness, before gently slipping away."

Tears rolled down Natalie's cheeks as she exchanged vows with Tim.

As she said 'I do', the bride claimed she felt her father's spirit leave, the Sun reports.

Her dad had previously been diagnosed with cancer when he was 60, battling the disease in his bowel, throat, lung and colon.

Natalie said he had lived 13 years longer than doctors anticipated and had built himself back up after his weight dropped to 60kg.

However, after a routine check-up doctors noticed that his lung tumour was growing - and he was quickly hospitalised as his condition deteriorated.

At her dad's funeral she and her sister Selina spoke about how he jokingly said he would haunt them after he had died.

During the eulogy, Natalie said she cried and asked her dad to 'hurry up and haunt us'.
