Dad storms out of sweet shop with daughter, 10, over X-rated display at till

A father and his young daughter, aged 10, had to swiftly leave a local sweet shop in the UK after realising they had a huge amount of X-rated confectionery on display.

The dad said he "didn’t expect" the adult-themed sweets "somewhere you’d take children" and said he found the range right by the till to be "inappropriate" and more suited to a shop like Ann Summers.

He claims the items on sale in the Cardiff shop were in view of anyone who strolled in and included candy cuffs and penis-shaped sweets with names referring to sexual acts.

Since speaking out about the incident, Kingdom of Sweets said they have all now been removed, as reported by Wales Online.

The dad, who says his daughter had been saving up money to visit the sweet shop as a treat, explained: "I'm not prudish at all but I didn't expect that in somewhere where you'd take children.

"On the high street in the capital city it's not on. Maybe in a distinctly adults-only section, tucked away somewhere, but no – it was right next to the till.

"My daughter went: 'I know what that is' because she's 10. We've spoken to her about certain things, she's not completely naive, but I just don't think that should be put in front of children on the high street in the middle of Cardiff.

"I don't think that's appropriate to be in front of children – penis-shaped sweets – really.

"It goes from a sort of innocent place where they sell Oreos and chocolate bars and stuff to something that I don't think should be in that kind of environment or maybe tucked away where only adults can go."

The dad has since emailed Kingdom of Sweets to complain but says he is yet to receive a response from the company.

After spotting the display, the dad decided to leave the shop without buying anything and added: "It's a real treat and it spoilt it for us really badly.

"We went to the castle and for some food and to go to Kingdom of Sweets was to top it off as a real treat," he said.

A spokesman for Kingdom of Sweets said: "We thank you for bringing this to our attention. The items have been withdrawn from stock."
