Dad stabbed to death outside flat after 'defending daughter from boys harassing her'

A dad stabbed to death in north London was defending his daughter from a group of boys harassing her, it has been claimed.

The victim - named by neighbours as father-of-three Jamie Markham, aged 45 - was set upon after coming out of his Chingford flat on Monday, according to witnesses.

His wife is said to have been screaming when she found Jamie fatally wounded outside, reports MyLondon.

He was described by neighbours as a "kind, family man".

London Ambulance Service paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene in Chingford Mount which was cordoned off as police launched a murder probe.

Resident Susan White said yesterday: "He was a quiet family man with three kids who kept himself to himself.

"It was devastating hearing his wife screaming like that last night."

Another neighbour, Sandra Green added: "He was no trouble at all, just got on with everything and was a kind, family man.

"We're all in shock, you assume it's teenagers who get involved in this but when it's a family man you just can't believe it."

Police were called at 6.20pm on Monday night to reports of a disturbance in Churchill Terrace, Chingford.

They found Jamie suffering with stab wounds and paramedics were unable to save him.

His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

Detectives from the Met's Specialist Crime Command have launched a murder investigation but no arrests have been made yet.

Officers at the scene said: “The investigation is in the very early stages.

“We are carrying out a number of witness and CCTV enquiries to establish what has taken place.”
