Dad so badly beaten in assault his son only recognised him because of his watch

These shocking images show the horrific injuries sustained by a pensioner who was assaulted in his own home.

Alan Dyke, 69, who previously worked on oil refineries as a successful engineer, was brutally beaten in May this year.

He had only recently moved into the new house on Spring Bank in west Hull where the attack took place.

He spent six weeks in hospital as a result of the facial and head injuries he suffered, with his family saying that he also has severe memory loss and repeatedly asks whether he has eaten and what day it is.

Son Cameron Dyke said his dad had been found barely conscious after the attack.

He was rushed to Hull Royal Infirmary with multiple facial fractures and a bleed on the brain.

Cameron said: "I wasn't allowed to see him until the day after the attack.

"When I went to see him, as you can imagine from the photos it was heartbreaking to see my dad in such a state. I only recognised him from his Breitling watch I bought him, which he was wearing in the hospital bed."

He said his dad is now forever changed following the attack.

He said: "Since the attack, his memory has been declining rapidly. He asks me the same repeated questions such as, what day is it?

"And then he can't remember what he had for food.

"He remembers his life before the attack such as people, his working life, but nothing that's happened recently."

He said his dad previously worked all over the world, visiting America, Canada, Germany, Holland and Norway, but now he is unable to work and has even lost his home, having to now live in supported accommodation helped by a local charity.

Two people have been charged in relation to the incident and are awaiting trial next year.
