Dad slams stunt for new app after having to explain swinging to his children

A dad has criticised an ad campaign for a new swingers app after it forced him to explain the sexual practice to his kids. People in fancy dress and carrying placards gathered to promote Velroo.

Slogans included 'Swingers Live Longer, Just Saying...' and 'Swing once you'll swing for life...'. They also asked passers-by what they thought of swinging - and posted videos on social media.

But one man said the stunt was "a bit much" - and meant he had to explain swinging to his children. Swinging sees both singles and people in committed relationships sexually engage with others for recreational purposes.

The dad, who asked not to be named, said: “It’s not great in terms of our kids consistently asking us, ‘Daddy, Mummy, what's swinging?’. "We were laughing about it but it’s not really that funny.

“We just said, 'It’s swinging like on swings'. I don’t think people took to it too well, more so because of kids being around, I think. We could see some of them had microphones and were asking people what they thought, and we saw a couple of people standing and talking to them.

"Some people were blocking off roads where there were so many of them. We only saw maybe 15 of the actual signs but we could see in the distance there was [more] of them and it was a little bit much."

A spokesperson for Velroo said: “There were definitely mixed emotions regarding the campaign over London yesterday. However, people love swinging, and over 150 people out of say 500 who did take the time to speak said they are swingers or are open to the idea of it.

“We are witnessing a shift and stigmas around these topics are being removed, particularly among Gen Z. [I] completely understand everyone has their preference.

"My message to them would be your neighbours, friends and parents could be doing it, let people do whatever they want to do.”
