Dad slams 'rancid' hotel room as carpet 'thick with pubic hair and bodily fluid in sink'

A health and safety professional has slammed a hotel he branded an 'absolute disaster' after claiming to find carpet thick with public hair and bodily fluids in the sink.

Kevin Jordan went to stay at the Meon Valley Hotel in Shedfield with his wife and son but ended up leaving early due to the poor conditions he claims to have found there.

A bathroom floor encrusted with urine, bins piled high with tissues and chocolate on the floor were among the unpleasantries the 42-year-old claims to have discovered during their brief stay.

He was also concerned about what he believed to be drug paraphernalia in a cupboard drawer, though the nature of the items has not been confirmed.

The family say they spent a particularly miserable night at the Southampton hotel lying on their beds fully clothed listening to the sound of someone in seemingly violent throws of passion for five hours.

Following the early departure, the Kevin is now seeking a refund.

"After a really painful stressful lockdown it was a holiday hell," Kevin told The Mirror. "It was rancid. I don't want anybody else to go through this."

Kevin and his wife had decided to take their nine-year-old son to the Goodwood Festival as a treat in July following months of lockdown.

They chose to stay at the four star Meon Valley because it "looked great on the website", and shelled out £342 for the pleasure.

After being given free drinks vouchers when they arrived because their room wasn't ready, the family headed upstairs a short while later.

The room that met them was less than ideal, Kevin claims.

"There were bodily fluids that looked like thick saliva in the sink, along with two blueberries bobbing around," he alleges.

"There were public hairs all over the floor and bathroom, the bath was orange stained, there were cornflakes on the floor from the previous guest, dust absolutely everywhere.

"This was when Covid measures were still in place. It didn't feel safe or clean."

Kevin says they went down to reception and asked for the room to be cleaned while they waited in the bar.

But when they went back up the family found the sink was full of water, Kevin claims, adding that a receptionist said it was due to the drains being blocked.

After Kevin asked to change rooms they headed off to their new home for the next three days, and he claims he passed old takeaways and used linen that was piled up on the floor.

The new room was no better than the first, the family said.

"The carpet was thick with pubic hair and there was a half eaten chocolate orange and used tissues on the floor," Kevin alleged.

"I opened the draw in the desk to find a rolled up piece of card with white powder residue as if someone had been doing drugs.

"It was absolutely stinking. We slept on top of the bed in our clothes. The floor was crusted and sticky with urine.

"There were tissues piled high in the bins. It sounded like a woman being killed in the next room. They were going at it for five hours. How can I explain that to my nine-year-old son?"

After much unsuccessful wrangling with the hotel management, Kevin emailed the council's environmental health team about the state of the hotel and then left early.

Kevin added: "It is just an absolute disaster."

But the local authority said its random checks of the property had found the hotel to be in 'good order'.

A Winchester City Council spokesperson said: "Winchester City Council officers are aware of Mr Jordan’s complaint and responded by visiting the hotel and engaging with the management.

"The hospitality star rating system assesses a wider range of considerations against set criteria including housekeeping, standards of décor and service.

"The council’s Environmental Health team focuses its inspections on the core matters of food safety and health and safety.

"During their visit, our officers conducted a random inspection of some rooms which were found to be clean and in good order.

"The hotel did concede that they have experienced some recent staffing issues and are seeking to address this issue to ensure that housekeeping standards are maintained as expected."

The owners of Meon Valley have been contacted for comment.
