Salford shooting: Dad gunned down in front of son, 10, by hitman on motorbike

A dad was seriously injured after he was shot in front of his 10-year-old son by hitmen on motorbikes.

Greater Manchester Police officers were called to reports of a shooting in Salford, Greater Manchester, shortly after 2.40pm yesterday.

The victim, in his 30s, drove himself to hospital with a gunshot wound to his upper torso.

A police spokesman said the man was driving when he was shot by a gunman believed to have been on a motorbike.

A child, believed to be 10, was in the car at the time but was uninjured, police said.

Security was ramped up at the hospital following the incident.

One witness said the child ran into A&E pleading for help.

Superintendent Marcus Noden said: "Our thoughts remain with the victim and the child who was present during this terrible incident.

"It is only by extreme fortune and the swift actions of the emergency services that this shooting didn't prove to be fatal.

"For a child to be witness to this type of incident makes the situation even worse."
