A dad chased a carjacker for five miles and then shot him after the thief took off in his car with his six-year-old son still inside.
Early on Saturday morning Lamar Thurman jumped into the car which had been left running as the dad said goodbye to friends at 2.30am.
The 29-year-old took off, with the child still sitting in the back seat.
The theft caused the panic-stricken father to call police and drive after his car with friends.
Police officers and the father followed Thurman for five miles until he crashed.

The father tried to free the boy from the vehicle, but Thurman was able to start the car again and started to drive away.
The dad then pulled a gun and began firing repeatedly, hitting Thurman multiple times 'in an attempt to stop him from fleeing further with his child in the car,' Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Teri Barbera said to Local10 .
Thurman then crashed again about 200 yards away in Latana.
He was taken to the hospital in critical condition and will face criminal charges if he survives.
The boy was not injured in the attack.
The suspect has no association with the victims, Barbera added.
This wasn’t Thurman’s first car theft.
He was released from prison on February 4 after serving three years behind bars for carjacking, robbery and aggravated battery of an elderly person after he tried to steal an 86-year-old woman’s vehicle in 2016, according to the Palm Beach Post
He’s on probation until 2022, according to state records.
