Dad shares iPhone hack that all parents need to know to keep their kids occupied

A dad has shared the simple trick he uses to keep his children occupied so he and his partner can get on with household chores in peace.

TikTok user @melissajean1223 explained that although she never thought they'd be the type of parents to give their baby a phone as a distraction, she admits "screens allow us to get some things done".

Melissa was blown away when her partner shared a handy setting that allows you to lock your iPhone on a particular app so that your child can use it without accidentally making any purchases or sending random messages, and she shared the advice in a video that has been viewed a staggering 25 million times.

Melissa said: "So my babe just showed me the ultimate parenting hack."

Her partner then begins to talk through how to turn on the setting, which is known as 'Guided Access'.

He told users to swipe down on their iPhone home screen to bring up the search function and type in 'Guided Access'.

This is a feature that keeps the iPhone in a single app and allows you to control which features are available - and can easily be turned on by triple-clicking the side button.

After turning on the function, you simply go to the app you want to keep the iPhone locked on.

The feature is called 'Guided Access' (melissajean1223/TikTok)

Then, triple-click the sleep/wake button and a list of options will appear - disable all of these and press resume in the top right-hand corner, as seen in the video above.

"And now they can't mess with it.

"You can't touch it. Nothing," he said.

Since being posted, the video has been liked 3.7 million times and has received almost 27,000 comments from impressed iPhone users.

One said: "Yeah it's a lifesaver for lots of people."

Another said: "Me not having any children but fully amazed by this."

"I literally asked why there isn't a feature for this yesterday morning. TikTok really saying for you," said a third, while another wrote: "Saving this for when I have kids in 10 years."

And one joked: "Caution. Only use this with kids who don't have anger issues and won't throw your phone against the wall."

But others were quick to point out that it's "been an Apple feature for years."

"Damn y'all late knowing this," said one person.

And a few people said they couldn't work out how to turn the feature off, but it was later explained that you can either triple-click the home button or the sleep/wake button if you have Face ID.
