Sometimes, I think that family and trauma are synonymous, considering how much parents and kids can damage each other. Unfortunately, children get punished for the sins of their fathers and mothers, or even vice versa. All that comes out of it is pain and suffering.

Today’s story begins as a tragedy with quite a satisfying end, but it nonetheless traumatized the Reddit user u/Slight_King3996. The thing is, he never had a good relationship with his father, who ignored and dismissed him, while his elder brother (Junior) was the golden child of the family. However, all hell broke loose when his dad found out about his mom’s affair through her old diaries!
After a lot of arguing, the couple decided to stay together, only on the condition that both sons would do a DNA test. The reason is that OP’s grandpa had a successful business, and only the legitimate child would inherit it, not the father, as he was not to be trusted with finances. Another terrifying thing is that the couple decided to kick out the illegitimate child, who would be revealed after the results.
Before the big reveal, Junior kept taunting OP that he was the affair child, and the scared poster made arrangements to stay elsewhere if that was true. Much to everyone’s surprise, however, the results showed him to be the legitimate son, while Junior wasn’t. How ironic, right? OP’s parents were devastated, and his dad tried to mend things with him.
He clapped back by telling them to kick out Junior, since it was their plan all along. His parents begged and cried to no avail, but OP refused to budge. They also tried to get him to patch things up with Junior, but he reminded them that they wouldn’t even consider it if he were the affair child. It is truly heartbreaking, isn’t it? I think the problem started when the parents decided to favor one child over the other and isolated OP. It has been observed that when parents play favorites, it can have lasting effects on the unfavored kids, while also increasing sibling tension. That’s exactly what happened with the poster, because even Junior was awful to him.
Also, facing harassment from a sibling is no joke. Research suggests that it can have detrimental and lasting effects on the victims. On top of it, finding out about a parent’s affair can also trigger quite a few mental health issues. Both sons must’ve felt the impact when their mom’s infidelity was uncovered, and even their parents’ fights could’ve further harmed them.
As if this drama wasn’t enough, OP also had to go through the terror of finding out whether he was the illegitimate child or not. The poor fellow was just 17 then, and the thought of being homeless must have terrified him. We can’t even begin to imagine all the painful things that went on in his life, one after another, like a domino effect of sadness.
Although he was cleared as the legitimate one, let’s not forget that the damage was already done, and a whole lifetime will also not suffice to forget what he suffered. Well, at least he has his grandpa’s business to look forward to, as many netizens pointed out. They also said that maintaining distance from his toxic parents would be better for his future.
