Dad saves wife and kids by landing plane after throttle snaps in mid-air terror

A brave pilot saved the lives of his wife and children by pulling off an emergency landing after the throttle cable broke in their plane.

Footage filmed from from inside the cockpit shows him and his partner breathing a huge sigh of relief as they touch down on the runway in Mississippi, US.

In the clip, Devin Miller, from Canada, keeps his cool as he homes in on the runway while his two children sit behind him - unaware of the danger they are in.

He calmly declares an emergency over the radio and asks for blue light vehicles to be ready on the ground in preparation for the worst.

The father claps and cheers with joy after pulling off the nail-biting landing.

On his YouTube page, the dad wrote: "Video showing our intentional, power off landing when our throttle cable broke off leaving engine at full throttle."

Many people left comments under the video praising his wife for her remaining level-headed and helping her husband to safely land the plane.

The dad encouraged other pilots to prepare for such a scenario, claiming his training helped him confidently carry out the maneovre.

Just weeks after Mr Miller pulled off the impressive feat, on September 1, a British Airways flight was forced to make an emergency landing.

The plane was enroute to Gatwick from Bari, in Italy, when the plane filled with smoke at 30,000 feet.

All 165 passengers were safely evacuated after the aircraft made an emergency landing in Basel, Switzerland, with four crew members taken to hospital.

A spokesman for Basle-Mulhouse airport said: "A British Airways plane made an emergency landing after the pilot reported smoke on board.

"Emergency services attended and four crew members were taken to hospital as a precaution."
