Dad's tribute to teenage son who died after complaining of leg pain

A well known DJ has posted a heartfelt tribute to his 18-year-old son who died after a short battle with cancer.

Graeme Park, famous for his work with Cream and the Hacienda, described his son Oliver as a "true warrior" who "fought so hard to the very end". Oliver died on March, 22 after losing his battle with sarcoma, a type of cancer which begins in the bones and then spreads to the soft tissues.

Oliver died barely a year after being diagnosed and in a post to social media, his mum Jenny who is from Liverpool said he "never once got angry, complained, or felt sad". Graeme has now set up a charity crowdfund to help fund research into the rare cancer that claimed the life of his son, the MEN reports.

The post on the Just Giving page said: “After complaining of leg pain over a long period, Oliver was eventually diagnosed as having a malignant nerve sheath tumour that was a type of sarcoma.

“Sarcomas are uncommon cancers that can affect any part of your body. A key symptom of sarcoma is a lump that gets bigger quickly. Most people get diagnosed when their sarcoma is about the size of a large tin of baked beans.

"We've chosen to support Sarcoma UK, a national charity that funds vital research, offers support for anyone affected by sarcoma cancer and campaigns for better treatments.

“Sarcoma is a type of cancer that develops in the bone and soft tissue. It is difficult to diagnose and one of the hardest to treat. By donating in memory of Oliver, you can help change this.

“Your donation will help researchers find answers, keep the specialist Support Line open, and raise awareness to improve treatment and standards of care. Your donations go so far in helping the sarcoma community.”

Following the news of Oliver’s death, social media was flooded with support for Oliver's dad, mum Jenny, and twin brother Ben.

Happy Mondays singer Rowetta said: “So so sorry for your loss. Sending love to you, Jenny & Ben.” Former Radio 1 DJ Dave Pearce said: “Graeme so sorry to hear this terrible news - sending you and your family love at this very sad time.”

Sister Sledge singer Kathy Sledge said: “I am so so sorry to hear this news. Sending my prayers to you and your family.” Manchester chef Simon Wood added: “I’m so sorry to read this. What you’re feeling and going through is unimaginable.”

Oliver will be buried at St. Peter's Church, Woolton on Thursday April, 13. If you would like to donate to the fundraiser click here.
