Dad's tribute to ‘little angels’ as three children die after flat fire in Scotland

A father has paid tribute to his three children who died in hospital after a fire at a flat in Scotland.

Fiona, 12, Alexander James, eight, and Philip Gibson, five, died in hospital after emergency services responded to the blaze in Paisley on Friday night.

Paying tribute to his children, Alex Gibson wrote on Facebook: "May you rest in peace little angels.”

He added: “How I miss them already, now I know what it feels like when your world comes crashing down”.

Police Scotland said the children's mother remained in hospital yesterday morning in a critical condition.

A JustGiving page, set up by a family friend, states the 39-year-old is in intensive care.

The fundraiser has raised more than £15,000 for the family so far.

Flowers and cuddly toys had been left at the scene on Renfrew Road today.

One passer-by said local people were left “shocked” by what happened, and simply added: “God bless those weans.”

Among the flowers left at the scene were some from Gavin Newlands, MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, who wrote on a card: “We are all so sorry for your heartbreaking loss.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “An investigation is under way to establish the exact circumstances of this incident.

“Anyone who has information that could assist our enquiries should contact police via telephone number 101 quoting incident number 3669 of 19 June 2020.”
