The cast for the BBC‘s new episodes of Dad’s Army has been revealed.
Tom Rosenthal, Kevin Eldon, Bernard Cribbins, Kevin McNally. Robert Bathurst, Mathew Horne and David Hayman are all slated to star in the comedy series, which originally ran from 1968 to 1977 and focused on the British Home Guard during the Second World War.
Three lost episodes from the sitcom’s original second series will be remade: ”The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Walker”, “A Stripe for Frazer” and “Under Fire”.
All three were originally aired in the 1960s, but disappeared from the BBC’s archives.
They will now be remade using the original scripts, written by Jimmy Perry and David Croft, and will air later this year on Gold to celebrate 50 years since their broadcast.
Cribbins was previously confirmed in the role of Private Godfrey, originally played by Arnold Ridley.
Pirates of the Caribbean‘s McNally will star as Captain Mainwaring, originally played by Arthur Lowe; Cold Feet‘s Bathurst as Sergeant Wilson, originally played by John Le Mesurier; and Friday Night Dinner‘s Rosenthal as Pike, originally played by Ian Lavender.
Brass Eye‘s Eldon will star as Lance Corporal Jones, originally played by Clive Dunn; Gavin and Stacy’s Horne as Private Walker, originally played by James Beck; and The Paradise’s Hayman as Private Frazer, originally played by John Laure.
