Dad's anger as pumpkin was smashed through living room by vandals on Halloween

A dad has spoken of his anger after a pumpkin was thrown through his living room window on Halloween night - leaving smashed glass everywhere.

Dave Turton, 49, of Bingham, was watching television with his wife at around 8pm when the couple heard a loud bang that sounded like a "firework going off".

To their shock, a pumpkin came hurtling through the glass, leaving shattered shards on the floor.

Mr Turton feared his two West Highland Terriers, which had heard a group of youths outside, could have been blinded by the glass.

"It was such a loud noise and we were both left shaken and really startled by it," the dad of two told Nottinghamshire Live.

"It's not what you expect. We have lived here for 21 years and have been targeted before.

"My big fear is with Bonfire night coming around next week. I am installing CCTV outside my house now. My neighbour has CCTV as well so hopefully that shows something.

"I am having to fork out to completely replace my window for no reason whatsoever. I am waiting on a quote now.

"It's not what you want your memory of Halloween to be. It should be a day for kids to enjoy, not act with such stupidity."

Mr Turton has reported the vandalism to police, who are now appealing for witnesses.

He believes the vandals were a group of young boys on bikes, who quickly fled when he went to confront them.

A statement from Nottinghamshire Police said: "Officers were called just before 8pm on Thursday October 31 to a report of criminal damage on Cedar Close in Bingham.

"It was reported that a pumpkin was thrown through the window of a house. Officers attended and are investigating the circumstances of the incident.

"If you saw what happened, you should call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 868 of 31 October 2019."
