Dad-of-two touched by John Lewis staff's reaction to daughters breaking candle

A dad was touched by the way staff at his local John Lewis reacted to his daughter's smashing a glass candle at the store.

Phil Norris was with his two daughters at the department store in Cheltenham and was trying to keep an eye on them.

Despite repeatedly urging his daughters, aged five and three, to take care in the store (and holding their hands for much of the time), the inevitable happened, reports Gloucestershire Live .

He writes: “I had just helped them choose their Mother’s Day cards and was looking for somewhere to pay for them.

“As I had the cards in my hands, I let them follow behind me.

“I then heard a crash.

“Bits of glass scattered on the floor and all I could do was put my head in my hands.

“It happened in front of what appeared to be some senior store managers and the first thing I said was that I would pay for it.

“They were amazing though. They said this kind of thing happened and I wasn’t to worry.

“Luckily, my girls had smashed a display candle and the damage was over a limited part of the store.

“When I asked where to pay for the cards, one of the managers joked how they would cost £100 each now.

“I was really impressed by the way they handled it and avoided what could have been an embarrassing moment.”
