Dad-of-two fined for calling mother of his children "a fat s**g"

A dad-of-two is paying the price for calling the mother of his children a “fat s**g”.

Ian Miller, 39, turned on Sara Breslin after a night out, hurling the insult at her and accusing her of cheating on him as they stood in a common close in Paisley’s Thrushcraigs Crescent.

Procurator fiscal John Penman told the town’s sheriff court that the incident happened in the early hours of the morning on May 16.

He explained: “Both the accused and the complainer had been out together in the evening.

“When they got home, both Miller and Sara Breslin went outside the property for a cigarette in the common close area.

“The accused for some reason became aggressive and started making offensive remarks towards his partner, calling her “a fat s**g’ and ‘a cheat.’

“The accused left the property and then returned – which is the complainer’s home address.

“Miller started to throw Breslin’s clothes in to the common close.

“Police were contacted and when they arrived they arrested Miller.

“He was taken to Greenock police station where he was processed and released on an undertaking."

Miller pled guilty to making the offensive remarks.

Defence agent Jim Clarke told the court that Miller and Breslin were still in a relationship and have two young daughters together.

Mr Clarke said: “The couple have survived this incident.

“They have two young daughters together, one is aged two and a half years old and the other is just one month old.

“On May 16, Ms Breslin had discovered a message on Miller’s phone that she wasn’t happy about, but this amounted to nothing.

“Mr Miller admits he reacted badly and wrongly to the suggestion that he was unfaithful.”

On sentencing, Sheriff Sukhwinder Gill said: “You made demeaning and derogatory remarks to the mother of your children.

“You’ve only got yourself to blame for standing in the dock today and now with a conviction.”

Sheriff Gill imposed a £600 fine reduced to £540 due to Miller’s plea ahead of trial.

A £40 victim surcharge was also imposed. A total of £580 is to be paid at £100 per month.
