Dad of two dies after being stung by wasp in garden

A man has tragically died after being stung by a wasp while he was in the garden.

George Cox, 45, was tending to the plants at his home in Bristol when he was stung which triggered an anaphylactic shock that lead to a fatal cardiac arrest.

The father of two was given CPR by paramedics at the scene before he was placed in an induced coma but he died a few days later, Bristol Live Reports.

George worked "across all departments" for Bristol-based Bailey Caravans, where he "progressed through the business" during his 15-year career.

Since his death, tributes from grieving family and friends have poured in for the "big character".

Manager Craig Dudridge called him a 'big character' who was 'loved by everyone'.

In a tribute he said: “George worked all departments and he was a very talented guy and you’d only have to show him something once and he’d pick it up.

"He progressed through the business and worked in the VIP section and finishing the units.

“He was our tractor driver, electrician, sprayer, there was no job he couldn’t overcome and he could turn his hand to anything. It’s a sad, sad loss as you can't replace characters like that. He was a one off.

“George was a big character, he was loved by everyone at Bailey’s and that’s from the owner to the directors, to managers, team leaders and the shop floor."

Craig said there was a "sombre mood" through the office as colleagues come to terms with the "shock" and try to process the death of a great friend and colleague.

He added: “We’ve come in today and it’s very a sombre mood. Everybody is still in shock and unable to process it.

"We’re supporting each other, we’re sharing fun stories of our memories of George.

“He was one of those guys that if you were having a bad day he’d be there for you. He always had a smile on his face and an arm around you, he’d say a few words and make you laugh.

“It’s a massive loss to our family. We are there to support his family and we're helping put in place things for them, which is a great gesture and shows how much he was loved.”

Neighbour and family friend Tracy Claridge, has set up a GoFundMe for people to chip in and help the Cox family with funeral costs.

The page has already exceeded its £5,000 target and Tracy has bumped it up to a new goal of £7,500.

She said the funds will go towards giving George "the best send off he deserves", with any additional monies going to care for partner Robyn, who has multiple sclerosis, and daughter Brook, 10.

Tracy said: “George was the loudest funniest but most caring lad who would do anything for anybody, and everybody loved him.

“We are blown away by the support and this just shows how many people loved George and how he touched people’s lives.”

George had been with his partner Robyn for 20 years, and was also her carer after she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at the age of 19.

The couple have a 10-year-old daughter named Brook.
