Dad-of-two died in crash riding motorbike he had dreamed of owning

The family of a man who died after the motorcycle he had longed to own was involved in a crash in Swansea have paid tribute to him.

South Wales Police have revealed the driver of the green Kawasaki motorcycle which collided with a Ford Galaxy around 5.20pm on Saturday, August 24, was Paul Jones, aged 50, from Port Tennant .

The family of the dad-of-two, also known as Paulie, said the former bus driver and doorman had only realised his dream of owning a Kawasaki motorcycle earlier this year.

In a family statement they said: “Paul is survived by his two children, Antonia and Curtis, along with his three sisters and brother, Lizzy, Adel, Caroline and Michael. 

“He was a loving partner to Kathryn having been together for some 18 years and also a well-loved uncle by his nieces and nephews whom he loved to play with and tease.

“His family and friends are and all devastated by this tragic incident as he will be sorely missed.”

The family said Paul was a well-known local bus driver in the Swansea area,having worked for First Cymru, NAT buses and South Wales Transport.

Earlier in his working career he had also worked on the doors of several bars and clubs in the city, in particular Shades and then Hoopers.

Their statement added: “He had a dream of owning a Kawasaki motorcycle which he achieved earlier in the year, tragically though he died whilst out riding it.

“He loved to ride his motorcycle and playing darts, many years previous being a member of the Union darts team in Port Tennant.

“Paulie lived life to the full and his family wish to thanks the witnesses who assisted the emergency services in trying to save his life.”

A 29-year-old man, who was driving the Ford Galaxy, was arrested following the crash and has been released under investigation.

South Wales Police said it would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the manner of driving of the vehicles prior to the collision.
