Dad of tragic Cork tot Santina Cawley tells of heartbreak after losing his 'pride and joy'

The father of tragic Cork toddler Santina Cawley has told of his heartbreak after losing his "pride and joy".

Two-year-old Santina was found dead in an apartment on Boreenmanna Road, Cork city on July 5 last summer.

The gravestone of the tot was installed this week and her father Michael spoke about how he's dealing with grief.

Michael said: "She was my pride and joy. I've been up in a heap. I'm missing my daughter every day.

"I'm confused really more or less than anything, that she's gone. I'm not accepting it.

"Even walking around Cork city I have visions of my daughter everywhere with me.

"Whether I'm on a bus or train or in a shop I used to go into with her. It's like I could nearly vision her standing next to me.

"Christmas time, a week before I spent the whole week in bed. It just wasn't the same, I just wanted it to be over."

The father explained to the Irish Daily Star that Santina's four siblings found it very difficult that "their sister was gone" over the Christmas period.

Michael visits the grave frequently where he says he gets just a "little bit of comfort".

A 35-year-old woman is charged with the murder of the toddler and is due to face trial next year, CorkBeo reports.
