Dad of three who died in tragic work accident to be laid to rest this weekend

The funeral of, a much-loved Cork father of three who lost his life in a tragic workplace accident, will take place this Saturday.

Family and friends will gather for the private mass for Micheal McCarthy at Kilfachtnabeg Church at 12 noon July 31st, following a procession from his family home in accordance with HSE social distancing guidelines.

The funeral ceremony will be live-streamed so those who loved and knew him can watch from home, Cork Beo reports.

Micheal, who was in his forties, was fatally injured after becoming trapped by a lorry he was working on in Carriglusk in Glandore.

Though emergency services rushed to the workplace including the Air Ambulance and local Gardai, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tributes have poured in from those who knew Micheal as a hard-working and well-liked family man, who leaves behind three sons aged 13,11, and 8. Messages of condolence and support can be left for Micheal's family through this online book.

The Parish of Leap and Glandore, in a post sharing funeral details, said that Micheal's passing is "deeply regretted by his heartbroken wife, children and family."

local Councillor Karen Coakley, said that everyone in the Glandore, Skibbereen, and Leap area is "just devastated."

"Everyone's thoughts and prayers are with his family, it's an exceptionally sad and difficult time for them," she added.

Fianna Fail Councillor Joe Carroll, a friend of the family, said he knew Micheal and his parents Ann and Christy well.

He described Micheal as a "very hard-working man, a great guy, a machinery man."

The incident that caused Micheal's death is still being investigated by Gardai from the Clonakilty District and the Health and Safety Authority.
