Speaking during the hearing, acting senior coroner Katie Sutherland said: "Iwan Gwyn had been out on a jet ski on the river at Alorkpem in Ghana.

"By 6pm it was dark and he somehow became detached from the jet ski and was unable to be recovered.

"He was pronounced dead at the scene and identified by Dr Stephen Anan.

"A post-mortem was carried out in Ghana which gave a provisional cause of death as asphyxiation or drowning and blunt head injury.

"His body has now been repatriated to this country and I will investigate his death by way of inquest.
