Dad of massacred student didn't hold funeral over fear 'monster would be there'

The dad of one of the four students murdered in their house has said he didn't even hold a funeral for her as he feared the killer would turn up.

The town of Moscow, Idaho, US, was left reeling after the four young people Madison Mogen, 21, Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20 and Ethan Chapin were found stabbed to death in their beds on November 13.

Investigations continue but so far no suspects have been identified by the police and no murder weapon has been found.

Kaylee's father Steve Goncalves has spoken out about his frustration with the progress of the investigation and has revealed why he hasn't given his daughter a funeral.

He told Good Morning America: "My wife's biggest fear, part of the reason we didn't have a funeral, is because she couldn't be guaranteed that that monster was going to not be there."

Mr Goncalves had to learn about the shocking injuries his daughter suffered but also that she did not suffer too badly.

He said that police described the murder weapon as "brutal".

He added: "The detective said this weapon is probably something [the murderer] paid money for and something that they're proud of."

Mr Goncalves also criticised law enforcement saying: "They're kind of just telling me that they can't tell me much, which is frustrating to me because I've been very trustworthy.

"I do know things, I haven't shared things."

Students have been told they can study from home as many have been left feeling unsafe in the wake of the murders.

President Scott Green said that officials are prioritising student safety after the deaths of four young people found stabbed to death in a house.

Green confirmed the university has "ramped up our security safety practices" and said they would accommodate students who do or do not wish to be on campus.

He said: "The police continue to inform us that they believed this was a targeted attack, but we recognise that this is not good enough for some of our students who will want to complete their semester remotely until the person who committed the crime is in custody."

In one of the latest turns, police have removed five cars from the scene of the crime. They have been taken to "a more secure long-term storage location to continue processing evidence" a police spokesperson said.

In the days after the deaths it was confirmed two more women, Bethany Funke and Dylan Mortensen were in the house at the time.

Police "do not believe" the pair were involved in the horrific deaths.

Chapin and Kernodle, dating at the time of their death, went to a party at the Sigma Chi fraternity house between 8pm and 9pm, while Mogen and Goncalves were at a sports bar from 10pm and 1:30 am.

A Twitch stream revealed CCTV of Goncalves and Mogen ordering food from a stall at around 1:40 am and Mogen interacting with one unidentified individual while they were there.

All four were back at the house by 1:45am.

Six calls were made by Goncalves to her ex-boyfriend Jack DuCoeur, 26, between 2:26am and 2:52am, only a few hours before the four were killed. Mogen also called DuCoeur three times 2:44am to 2:52am.

The calls went unanswered and Kaylee's mum Kristi told Fox that people were "wasting their time" with theories about why the calls were made.

"They’re wasting their time with Jack. Jack is just as distraught as we are. Jack is our family,” Kristi said. "Jack is with us and we stand behind him 1,000 per cent.

"We know in our hearts, our minds, our souls, the depths of our souls, Jack is hurting. Kaylee and Jack would’ve eventually been married and they would’ve eventually had children together."
