Dad of Irish Love Island contestant Yewande Biala says he didn't know she was entering the dating show

The dad of Irish Love Island contestant Yewande Biala has revealed he didn't know she was entering the dating show - but he'll be backing her all the way.

Her father Samsun added he'll be glued to the telly every night to watch Love Island - except for when he's working as a Luas driver.

Although the show has had its fair share of ditzy characters in the past, scientist Yewande has both brains and beauty in spades.

The 23-year-old holds a first class honours degree in Biotechonology from the Athlone IT and a Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance and Regulations from DIT.

Describing his daughter, Enfield resident Samsun told The Irish Sun: "Yewande reads a lot. She's a clever girl.

"I speak for all of us when I say her family here in Enfield are really happy she is on Love Island, and myself and my wife are supporting her 100 percent."

And he revealed he had no idea his daughter had signed up for the dating show until her younger sister came running down the stairs, screaming that she had been selected.

Samsun said: "At first I was worried something was wrong but then I realised it was good news.

"I didn't know anything about Love Island before this but I will be watching it every night now Yewande will be on it. That's it if I'm not working."

But he added that he won't be giving her any dating advice, saying: "I don't concern myself with who Yewande is dating or have those conversations."

Yewande was born in Nigeria but moved to Ireland with her family at a young age, first living in Dublin 8, before relocating to Enfield, where she attended school.

She excelled in school and after finishing college, she found a job with Bristol-Myers Squibb where she works as a Quality Assurance Specialist.

The stunner has admitted she’s “never had a good date” and rates her looks “6.5 to a 7” out of 10.

Asked what makes her the perfect Love Islander, she said: “I’m a scientist, which is a unique job. I think people may be surprised.

"Every time I say that I’m a scientist, people are shocked. I think there are loads of intelligent people on reality television, last year we had Dr Alex and the year before we had Camilla Thurlow in the villa.”

Yewande said she is “easy to get along with” but talks too much: "I never stop talking and it gets me in trouble sometimes."
