Dad of four 'Singo' who died suddenly was 'a gentleman'

A much loved Merseyside Police officer has died just three years after retiring from the force.

Peter Singleton, known to his colleagues as 'Singo', died suddenly at the weekend aged just 59.

The former officer served with Merseyside Police for over 32-years and became a sergeant in 2005.

He later served Merseyside Police Federation as the Wirral Sergeants Rep between 2006 and 2012 and was then elected as Chair until his retirement in 2018.

After retiring from the force, he moved to Ireland where he lived with his partner Yvonne.

He leaves behind his parents, sister, brother, four children and two grandchildren.

In a statement on their Facebook page, a spokesperson for Merseyside Police Federation said: "It is with great sadness that we have to inform everyone of the sudden death of our former Chair, Peter Singleton.

"Pete - known to everyone as Singo - died over the weekend," adding: "He will be sadly missed by everyone."

Following the announcement, over 100 people replied to the post to add their condolences and pay their respects to the former officer.

Sam Jay said: "What sad news, Pete was a lovely man and I know he will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of meeting him. RIP Pete."

Karen Stephens commented: "Oh wow…This is heartbreaking. Such a lovely bloke with a twinkle in his eye!!! Sleep well Pete…"

Sharon Jardine posted: "Heartbreaking and such sad news. Such an amazing man and so supportive. Our love, condolences and deepest sympathies go out to his partner Yvonne and family."

Angie Grinham commented: "Such a shock, very witty gentleman who was so family orientated. A pleasure to work with and have known. Condolences to his lovely family x".

While Nyki Clark said: "Such sad news, RIP Pete, such a lovely guy with great sense of humour. My thoughts and deepest sympathy to his family at this sad time x".

Peter Singleton's funeral will take place on Wednesday, November 24 at 11am in Portaferry, Northern Ireland.

The family has requested no flowers, but instead, donations to the British Heart Foundation would be welcomed.
