Dad of cold case murder victim Ken Fetherston urges people with info on 'cowardly' killers to come forward

The father of a cold case murder victim has urged people with information on his killers not to be afraid to come forward.

The family of murdered Ken Fetherston said they remain “broken” 10 years after his body was found dumped in a shallow mountain grave.

Tonight gardai are making a fresh appeal for help to solve the brutal murder and a reward was issued for information by Crimestoppers.

The 27-year-old, from Tallaght in Dublin, disappeared in September 2009 and his body was found four months later by walkers on Military Road in the foothills of the Dublin mountains.

The father of one had no involvement in crime. His family believe he was brutally stabbed to death after meeting someone to whom he had lent money.

Ken’s dad Brian told the Irish Mirror: “We know who did it and there is nothing for anyone to be afraid of from them. They are cowards. The way they murdered my son was cowardly.

“I know the information is out there. I am just hoping someone will break ranks and cough up what they know to bring this to an end and let Ken go and rest in peace.”

Ken’s mother Grainne also described the pain of the family’s 10 year hell.

“The impact on our family, we are broken, his loss, his absence he is so much missed,” she said. “He just enjoyed life and lived for his family.

Ken’s dad Brian added: “The fact it has gone on 10 years is heartbreaking.

“A family has been left without a son and his daughter never got to know her daddy.”

Ken’s daughter was just three when he was murdered.

Gardai are urging anyone with information to help end the family’s pain in a renewed appeal on the 10th anniversary of the discovery of the young father’s remains.

Superintendent Ian Lackey from Tallaght Garda Station said: “On the tenth anniversary of Kenneth’s murder, we are appealing for anyone who has even the smallest piece of information to come forward. Although time has passed, any information that may seem insignificant to you may help with this investigation.

“If a member of the public prefers to give the information without identifying themselves, they can call Crimestoppers on 1800 25 00 25.”

Ken left his apartment in Tallaght on Tuesday September 22nd, 2009 at 08.30am in a red Honda Civic. He travelled to Luke Lawlor’s filling station, Balrothery, Tallaght (now Circle K garage) and “Hi-Spec Repairs” at Landy’s Industrial estate (which has since closed) where he was last seen.

His red Honda Civic (registration 93 D 44862) was discovered four days later in a lay-by on the N11, between Arklow and Gorey. Gardaí believe the car was abandoned there between 11pm on Tuesday September 22nd and 10am on Wednesday 23rd September.

A file was sent to the DPP in relation to a numner of suspects in the case but there was insufficient evidence to bring charges.
