A dad who suffered a horrific accident on a digger would likely have died if it wasn't for his teenage son.
Quick-thinking Jacob Kelly administered first aid to his dad , Nigel, after his foot got caught up in rotating machinery - nearly ripping it off.
Jacob then jumped in his dad's Jeep and drove up to a main road, flagging down a passing motorist.
His amazing actions meant an ambulance could then get to dad Nigel in time - saving his life.
Nigel was taken to hospital then airlifted to Aintree Hospital where he was placed on life support.
He is now recovering and doing well after having an operation to remove muscles from his chest and replace them lower down to protect his lungs.
Jacob's mum Kimberley Parker - who split from Nigel previously - said: "I'm extremely proud.
"His actions and how he has done everything right without any first aid training - I think it's remarkable. It's just heroic.
"If it wasn't for my son's quick-thinking his dad would have definitely died."
Jacob was helping out on his dad's land near St John's on the Isle of Man when disaster struck last Wednesday.
The teenager had been tending to a horse while Nigel worked on a digger with a drill attached at the other end of the field.
Kimberley said: "He heard his dad screaming and went over to see this horrific scene, with his torso sliced to ribbons and his foot pretty much hanging off.
"Nigel was in and out of consciousness. The drill had got caught on his foot and spun him around. The machine had then stalled.
"Jacob has never had first aid training in his life. But instinct kicked in. His dad taught him to drive, on private land."
Jacob bandaged up his dad's foot and body as best as he could and used his jumper and coat to keep him warm.
He then realised he had no mobile phone so charged across the private land in the Jeep to a main road, where he flagged down a passerby.
Kimberley added: "Jacob just says: 'He's my dad. I was not going to leave him lying there was I?'."
Local police have now said that Jacob will be nominated for an award for his actions.
An ambulance spokesperson confirmed that they had attended the accident.
Nigel was first taken to Noble's Hospital before being airlifted to Aintree.
