Dad 'mentally scarred' after hearing son 'being beaten and screaming' in violent attack

A dad says he and he son "could have been killed" after the pair were attacked on a night out.

Peter Brown was left with "significant mental scars" after he went for a drink with his sons and friends, which later left them the victims of a violent attack.

It happened in Grantham on October 27, 2018, where a number of fights broke out in just under 90 minutes.

Four men were jailed in connection with the attack earlier this month.

The violence began outside Oscar's bar in Guildhall Street, further violence then broke out outside The Bank pub which then moved in the Market Place, where several attacks took place, Lincolnshire Live reports.

Peter and his son Danny were two of the victims involved.

"I'd gone out for a drink with my sons to meet his friends," said Peter.

"We were planning on going to Gambia for my 60th and were having a great time.

"We'd been in the bar and I remember one of the lads staring and pointing at my son.

"Then as we were leaving and walking out into the Market Place, I don't remember this but I've watched the CCTV, I was hit from behind and just fell to the floor and went unconscious.

"I remember coming in and out and I could hear my son's being beaten and screaming and I couldn't move. I couldn't do anything.

"The mental scar from that will stay with me forever.

"From seeing the CCTV, I know that everyone was attacking us. We could have been killed."

Seven people were charged with offences in relation to the violent outbreaks and have since had their cases heard at Lincoln Crown Court.
