Dad looks unrecognisable after losing seven stone by ditching chocolate Hobnobs

A sweet-toothed dad looks unrecognisable after ditching chocolate Hobnobs to lose SEVEN STONE.

Gerrard Glennon ballooned to 21st 10lb after gorging on sugary snacks including cakes, biscuits and his favourite - chocolate Hobonbs.

The dad-of-one, who was a 42 inch waist, said he "wouldn't think twice" about devouring a full packet of the McVitie's treat in one sitting.

And on top of his sweet cravings he would binge on ready meals, sandwiches and takeaways.

However after the death of his wife Sue, in 2015, Gerrard was given the wake up call he needed to change his unhealthy ways.

Gerrard, from Formby , told the ECHO : "I put on a lot of weight when my wife was ill and after I lost her I think I used eating as my crutch.

"I would eat anything and I have a terrible sweet tooth, but I also like savoury, especially bread - I would just snack on toast.

"Being on my own as well I would just have a ready meal for tea, anything easy.

"I would cook but it would be something like lasagne with loads of cheese. "

Gerrard Glennon said he would feel out of breath when walking due to his size (Gerrard Glennon)

Gerrard said he had not noticed his weight creeping up on him until his son, a medical student, gave him a shocking ultimatium.

The retired RAC worker said: "It was my son who gave me the impetus to lose weight.

"He basically sat me down and said 'you are not on any medication now, but you are going to be - you are a ticking time bomb'.

"He told me he 'didn't want to be an orphan' and it was that I think, which hit home.

"I realised that this wasn't just about me, it was affecting other people too."

Gerrard said he joined WW "kicking and screaming" but went with the intention of losing "a couple of stone".

However two years on Gerrard has lost a staggering seven stone, 10 inches off his waist and four clothes sizes going from a XXL to medium.

Gerrard Glennon said he now "feels great" after losing a staggering seven stone at WW (Gerrard Glennon)

He said: "I was a typical 'men don't go to these classes' and my sister literally had to drag me there kicking and screaming.

"But I actually found it really good and everyone was really encouraging.

"I don't think I realised, until I lost weight, just how much being overweight affects every little bit of your every day life.

"I couldn't walk very far without getting out of breath and I couldn't find clothes that would fit me.

"I would use excuses like 'I am happy and fat' but really I wasn't happy. I was just fat."

Now Gerrard looks unrecognisable after losing a staggering seven stone at WW (Gerrard Glennon)

The 56-year-old said he is still able to eat tasty foods on WW - which has taught him about portion sizes.

However there is one treat that he has to give a wide berth from.

Gerrard Glennon lost 10 inches off his waist and went from a size XXL in t-shirts to a medium (Gerrard Glennon)

He said: "Unfortunately Hobnobs are still my downfall and the realisation is that I just can't buy them.

"It is too difficult to just eat the one and then before you know it the packet has gone.

"But apart from them I don't do without anything.

"WW is a sustainable diet because I have changed my outlook on food.

"I've lost weight gradually, I think it works out like a 1lb a week, but I feel like that is the way to do it."

And apart from feeling "ecstatic" at his weight loss, Gerrard - who has just achieved a couch to 5k - said there is another highlight.

He said: "Me and my son are the same size clothes now so when he comes home from university I can steal his clothes!"
