Dad left speechless after Tesco shop when he opens 19p bag of 'rude' vegetables

A shopper had his funny bone tickled when he discovered a well-endowed parsnip in among his vegetables.

Matthew Whittaker was sorting the weekly shop when he pulled out the x-rated veg from his 19p bag from his local Tesco in Penzance.

Whilst he admitted to being stunned by the find, his wife Amy, 34, had a laughing fit in their kitchen at the sight of the phallic parsnip.

Dad-of-two Matthew, 44, told Liverpool Echo: “We had a good laugh about it, it's the second time I've found a rude vegetable from the same Tesco.

"How lucky am I?

"I thought oh no, not again - why do these rude vegetables keep finding me?"

Two years ago, the couple, of St Just in Penwith, Cornwall, found a carrot with a rude-looking appendage from a bag of shopping they'd had delivered from the same store.

Delivery driver Matthew said Amy, a support worker, called him into the kitchen to show him the hilarious X-rated find.

The couple usually buy wonky carrots, but their local store did not have any in when they ordered - and Matthew quipped they sent "winky" ones instead.

Matthew, originally from Bradford added: "I guess it's just luck that I find the funny ones.

“I just need a rude swede now and I'll have a full set."

Matthew sliced the parsnip and the couple ate it on a roast dinner.

Earlier a mum shared how she has slashed the cost of her food bill as the cost of living crisis is continuing to squeeze hard-working families across the UK.

One way to save cash is to batch cook so meals are ready for later in the week or month.

Fay Churchward, 52, a mum-of-two from Plymouth, says batch cooking saves her around £40 a week - and it also means she has more time in the evenings.

She told LatestDeals.co.uk : “I started batch cooking when the kids left home. I found I couldn’t stop making meals for four people, so it made sense to freeze a couple of portions to use another day.

"It also means I have more time to do the things I enjoy. If I spend a couple of hours on a weekend doing some batch cooking, I have more time in the week for what I want to do.

“I am also less likely to grab a takeaway instead. It has the added bonus of less washing usually too.

“I am all about working smarter, not harder.”
