Dad left 'needing therapy' after fish and chips cost him £54

A dad visiting his son in London was left reeling after offering to pay for fish and chips for a family of four - and being hit with a £54 bill.

The Yorkshireman was left 'trying to access therapy' after the dinner treat when he visited his son.

Vicar Gareth Jones told his Twitter followers that his dad was shocked after handing over his bank card to pay for a meal, reports YorkshireLive.

Mr Jones said: "Dad wanted to buy fish and chips last night. We let him and he gave me his card to pay for them delivered.

"He’s now trying to access therapy as he’s realised 4 rounds of fish, chips and mushy peas cost him £54. Welcome to London, Yorkshireman."

Some commenters took to Twitter to explain the bill.

One pointed out the price of a box of cod fillets has rocketed from £90 to £155 recently, while oil has gone up from £18 a litre to £22 a litre in a year.

They added: "If you used online delivery they take 35% give restaurant 65 %. Out of that restaurant pay vat."

One Yorkshire resident said: "Time for the old Barnsley war cry, HOW MUCH!"

A Yorkshire native pointed out the difference, writing: "We had fish and chips and peas for five adults on Thursday and it cost £20.20. Best fish and chips in the world in Yorkshire"

One said: "London is no place for a Yorkshireman. 4 times and 4 peas is £22.00. Hope he's better soon."
