Dad issues warning to parents after alleged attempted abduction of son in Kilworth, Co Cork

A dad has issued a warning to other parents after the alleged attempted abduction of his nine-year-old son.

The terrifying incident happened at around 12.30pm as the boy walked home from school on Main Street, Kilworth, Co Cork.

Gardai are investigating and the father is hopeful that CCTV will help get to the bottom of the incident.

The dad, who did not want to be named, told CorkBeo: "As he was walking home from school the Car drove alongside him and the driver was staring at him.

"He then drove on ahead and stopped. At this time my lad felt something was wrong so picked up speed an as he passed the car. The guy called him over but he ran as fast as he could and was at home within two minutes.

"He told me what happened, I didn't want to make a big deal of it in front of him as he was a bit upset and out of breath from running. I took off in my car and drove around the village to see if I could see any strange car but I think the driver was gone by then."

The concerned father has given details of the vehicle to investigating officers and gardai have confirmed they are looking into the alleged incident and CCTV may be used to track down the perpetrator.

A garda spokesperson told CorkBeo: "Gardaí are making enquiries into an alleged incident which occurred on Thursday 26th June 2019 in the Main Street area of Kilworth, Co. Cork. Enquiries are ongoing."
