Dad in disbelief after 'kind man' returns £300 his daughter lost

A family have been left in utter disbelief after a stranger made a kind gesture and returned hundreds of pounds found "scattered" outside a Boots.

On the morning of July 10, 24-year-old Georgeana Kenny went into town to do a bit of shopping and withdrew £300 in cash to contribute towards her boyfriend Liam's 30th birthday celebrations.

Georgeana's dad Andy, 53, stated that after leaving the Superdrug branch in Merseyside, his distressed daughter rang him to report that the large sum of money to pay towards a saxophone player had gone missing.

The pair took to social media to post on a local Facebook group in the hopes that someone would have claimed or had information about the money but felt that there was "no chance" they would see it again, reports Liverpool Echo.

However, in a dramatic twist of events, Andy said he "couldn't believe" who the hero was that returned the money.

Andy s poke to Liverpool Echo and said: "'It was her boyfriend Liam's birthday over the weekend and she'd organised a bit of a do for him at a pub in St Helens.

"She went into St Helens town centre in the morning and withdrew £300 out of a cash machine to pay various people. She then rang me all upset and said she didn't know what she'd done with the money.

"I said don't worry about it, I will lend you the money, don't stress about it. She said she had it in Superdrug in town but now it's gone."

Andy posted on Facebook asking anyone who found it to please return it and contact him or Georgeana.

A woman quickly got in touch to say her dad and daughter had found a large sum of money outside Boots, but when Andy went to collect it he couldn't believe "who was behind the door."

Andy said: "She said my dad and daughter found £220 near Boots in St Helens and the Superdrug is near Boots. She said they hung around outside in case and then gave me her dad's address.

"I went down in the afternoon and I know him. He's a couple of years older than me but we grew up in the same area. He's a childhood acquaintance, his name is Paul and I know his brothers.

"When he opened the door I knew him and he knew me right away and I said you couldn't make this up.

"He said he was out with his granddaughter and she said 'look grandad, money' and then as he's looked there was another note and then another note and that he found £220 of the money."

Andy said Paul's daughter mentioned that he didn't have Facebook, but had asked her to check social media for any word so he could return the money to its rightful owner.

Andy said: "I just said I can't thank you enough. I tried to offer him £20 as that is what me and Georgeana wanted to do and he said 'no chance.'

"I even said give it to your granddaughter and he said he was just made up that we got the money back. He was all apologetic because he didn't find the whole £300.

"I thought there was absolutely no chance of ever seeing that money again. For one it's unbelievable it was found and for two, somebody to be so kind hearted.

"It's a lot of money, someone could have taken it to pay their gas bills, or electricity or got a new tyre on their car. Life is expensive.

"It was a fantastic gesture by a very kind man."

Andy updated his original Facebook post to let people know that a "legend" had found the money 'scattered' near Boots and returned it.

Many residents in St Helens were quick to praise the kind act.

One person said: "Now that is a true gent... Faith in humanity restored right there."

Another commented: "Not something you see everyday, well done for your honesty man."

Another posted: "There are always more good people in the world than bad. Glad you got your money back."

And one person said: "Fabulous news, absolutely made up for you. Some genuine people after all."
