A new mum has been told that her husband is a 'self righteous a**hole' after he went to extreme lengths to force her into breastfeeding their young daughter.
The mum says her 10-month-old recently started biting during breastfeeding, and when it happens she tells her 'no' and puts her down immediately.
She's only just started having to take the measure as she said her breasts "look like a war zone", causing her to bleed and she "simply cannot take it anymore".
The mum has been trying to use a pump, but that is also causing her a lot of pain while the bite wounds heal, and has been using a mix of pumping and formula to feed her daughter.
"My husband does not like this," she said. "He was okay with me pumping and feeding our daughter until I started supplementing with formula.
"He believes that breast milk is best and formula is the devil because it's not 'natural' or something."
She says she tries to give her baby milk four or five times a day, and still attempts to breastfeed once or twice a day.
The conflict between the couple over how she feeds their daughter reached 'tipping point' when her husband hid the formula so she would have "no choice' but to breastfeed.
She added: "I ask him why he's doing this, and he simply says he doesn't think I'm not trying hard enough because I stopped simply because she's biting me, and that a good mother wouldn't stop doing what's best for her child simply because she's in pain."
After asking for advice on Reddit, other users were left 'incredibly angry' on her behalf.
One raged: "This is just plain awful, there's no mincing words, no other way to put it. How f***ing dare he. I am filled with righteous indignation on your behalf.
"A good husband wouldn't gaslight his wife into thinking that she is somehow doing her child wrong by making certain her child gets the nutrients she needs while making certain that her own body isn't relegated to the status of a chew toy. I don't even know you and I'm FUMING."
Another said: "I'm seeing red!! How dare he gaslight you in this manner? Try harder? Bite his damn nipples drawing blood and see how he likes it!!"
A third commented: "This has me so VERY angry! What the husband is doing is abusive!"
