Dad hailed a 'genius' for simple trick to get kids to clean their room

A dad has shared a clever hack to trick his children into cleaning their rooms.

Chad McHunt shared his idea on Facebook and was quickly hailed as a 'genius' by other parents, all too familiar with the daily battle with kids to keep their rooms clean.

In a post on Facebook, he explained his plan and said all it took was a bag of black rice.

He wrote: "So, I have teenage kids. I’m always arguing with them about not eating in their room, returning dirty dishes to the kitchen.

"I threatened that they're going to end up with a mouse in their room that will bring friends to the house... I got tired of singing the same song and decided to teach them a lesson.

"I went to Whole Foods, purchased some black rice and sprinkled it in their closet, under their bed, I even added a few under their covers.

"It looks like mice droppings and it scared the s**t out of them.

"Needless to say - we don’t have that room cleaning issue anymore."

His post has since been shared over 87,000 times by parents grateful to him and vowing to try it out for themselves.

Some branded Chad a "genius" while others said it was "clever" - mostly people just found the whole situation very "funny".

One person said: "One smart parent. Good job!"

Another replied: "I’m stealing this idea, but with my luck, they’ll want to feed the poor mice I know that my son would have definitely fed the mice!"

A third commented: "This is genius haha."

Another parent said she had come up with a similar idea in the past. She said: "My daughter did the same thing , always eating in room , I put FAKE spiders one in bed she never ate in there again."
