Dad gets help from newborn son in heartwarming proposal to long-term girlfriend

A new dad proposed to his long-term girlfriend just hours after she gave birth to his child.

Craig Roberts had been planning the proposal for over two months and made sure he was prepared when Claire went into labour.

And instead of opting for the conventional proposal, Craig let his brand-new baby boy Logan deliver the message after he was born on Wednesday, May 15, weighing 5lb 14oz.

The proud father, a bus driver from Liverpool, had secretly designed a baby-gro on which he had printed the words ‘Mummy will you marry daddy?’ and he kept it safe in his pocket throughout Claire’s labour.

Craig said: “There was a point when I thought it might not happen as Claire had had a difficult labour, but our midwife Jo helped me through and we made it happen.

"I was nervous but I knew she’d say yes.”

Midwife Jo Boyd at at Liverpool Women’s Hospital said: “I was made aware that Craig was intending to propose on the nightshift handover and I was thrilled to be a part of this special occasion.

“I managed to pull Craig to one side and we had a little chat about what we would do.

"Not long after Claire delivered, myself and Craig secretly dressed Logan in his special baby-gro and presented him to Claire.

“It was a beautiful moment. There was a buzz of excitement on the delivery suite all day as we were all anticipating the big reveal.

"We love anything like this, it gives us a lovely boost and we are all over the moon for them both”.

Claire, 33, an assistant manager for Pound Bakery, has been in a relationship with Craig for 15 years and had no idea he was going to propose.

She said: “We had talked about it over the years and he’s asked for my ring size a couple of times, but I never thought anything of it.

“I was so shocked when I saw the message on Logan’s baby-gro, I burst into tears …and said yes.”
