MUMBAI: A special Pocso court on Thursday convicted and sentenced a 46-year-old father to five years rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting his 7-year-old differently abled daughter.
The accused was also fined Rs 11,000, of which Rs 8,000 will be given to the child as compensation. While the child did not depose due to health issues, special public prosecutor Geeta Sharma cited the evidence of her mother and aunt to seek the conviction of the accused. The accused has been in jail since his arrest on June 8, 2018.
The mother told the court that since the child was born with severe health concerns, her husband was never attached to her. Later, she left him and moved to another house which she had purchased but the accused started visiting that house too. One day, the accused came to their house again and attempted to sexually assault the child. The woman then confided in her employer who, in turn, told her about an NGO. The NGO helped the woman lodge an FIR.
