Dad furious after being told to leave parents' room because it's 'just for mums'

Josh Anderson has been left feeling absolutely furious after he was told to get out of a parents' room because of his gender.

The father, who lives in New Zealand, was confronted by a woman when he tried to take his five-month-old daughter Vienna, to the baby changing room at Westfield in Manukau, Auckland.

The parent simply wanted to change his daughter's nappy during a shopping trip, but was told the space was "just for mums".

His wife Kori Anderson was also angered by the incident and later took to Facebook to share a rant about it, reports The Daily Star.

In a post, she wrote: "PSA - parent rooms in malls are not just for Mums; DADS AND CAREGIVERS ARE WELCOME TOO.

"If you aren’t aware of this then please take the time to educate yourself and your family.

"Josh just got absolutely ripped into by a Mum for using the parents room in Westfield Manukau as he took our 5 month old daughter in for a nappy change, a bottle and to use the bathroom.

"It’s called a PARENTS room for a reason.

"Apparently the Mum’s reasoning was that even though the sign said 'parent-child room' the symbol was of a person in a dress."

A woman told him he wasn't allowed in the baby changing room (Facebook)

She continued: "If you were that mum, please learn common decency, gender diversity (a person of any gender can wear dresses too) and learn the definition of a PARENT.

"I’ve had it up to here with s*** that’s going on and this has p***** me off BIG TIME."

Josh admitted he also felt "p***** off" by the woman's comments but knew that he was in the right.

Speaking to Newshub he said: "When I was in there, a lady and her son were knocking on the door.

"I opened the door and the lady looked shocked I was in there and abused me for using it."

His wife, Kori, was furious about the incident (Facebook)

He added: "Men should feel welcome in there. I see lots of dads in there changing and feeding their kids. It should be normal like a mum feeding a child in public.

"It's not a just mother's job to look after our kids - it's a parent's job."

Kori's post garnered a lot of attention and many fellow parents felt outrage for her husband.

One person replied: ""That's bull****!"

Another commented: "I'm so sorry Josh Anderson that shouldn't have happened to you!!

"Don't let it discourage you and you are an awesome daddy and definitely welcome in the PARENT room."

A Manukau City Westfield spokesman said the room was open to all caregivers.

They added: "Parents’ rooms are provided for the use of all parents, carers and guardians."
