Dad forced to tell daughter, 3, mum took own life after she asks 'Where's mummy?'

A father has spoken out about the traumatic moment he had to tell his three-year-old daughter her mother had died.

Joel Denny had been with little Macy when he received the news his former partner Beajay Phillips had tried to kill herself.

Ms Phillips, 25, was taken to hospital and placed on life support, but was declared brain dead on Monday, October 7.

Mr Denny from Brisbane, told Daily Mail Australia he had been speaking to Ms Denny about their daughter in the hours before her death and had no idea anything was wrong.

He said: "It was terrifying, it was not something you can prepare yourself to hear. I was speaking to her two hours earlier. And she was perfectly fine. I was just in shock.

"My daughter started to ask questions like "where's mummy?" and stuff like that. By the end of it I just couldn't live with the guilt of not telling her what was going on.

"I took her to a quiet area and told her, and my mum helped me with that, and just explained it to her the best I could in her language. It was the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life."

He took Macy to see her mum, one last time in hospital before the machine was turned off, so the little girl could say goodbye.

Ms Phillips was able to donate some of her organs, and Mr Denney had urged others to seek help if they are struggling.

A GoFundMe page has also been set up to support the family.
