Dad finds alien-like sea creature 'worth £50,000' washed up on beach

A dad who described a bizarre-looking sea creature as "something not of this world" was stunned when he found out what it could be worth.

Martyn Green and his family from New Brighton were enjoying a weekend away near Caernarfon in North Wales when they came across the peculiar creature.

The slimy tentacles had attached themselves to a log which had washed up on the shore, Liverpool Echo reports.

Martyn filmed the creatures poking their heads in and out of their shells - and it looked as if they belonged in a horror film.

He said: "My wife Gemma, she found it. We were walking on the beach and she called us and said 'come back, look at this'.

"We went and had a look and it looked like something not of this world.

"It was quite and attraction for the locals."

After doing some research 47-year-old Martyn and his son Daniel discovered they were Gooseneck Barnacles which are quite rare.

But in countries such as Portugal and Spain they are considered delicacies.

He said: "It turns out they are one of the most expensive sea creatures you can buy.

"From looking on Google I think it's about £25 each they go for, and on the log there were probably about 2,000 of them."

So, if that's the case, the barnacles would be worth a whopping £50,000.

In peak season the barnacles can also fetch €360, equivalent to £322, per kilo.

Martyn was careful not to reveal the exact location of the odd creature to stop people visiting it.
