Dad fighting for life after being found with mystery injuries outside hotel pictured

This is the first picture of a dad left 'fighting for life' after being found unconscious with serious head injuries outside his hotel in Liverpool.

Robert Fitzpatrick, from Dublin, had flown into the city on Thursday with friends and had been planning on attending the Grand National , in Aintree, on Saturday.

However, the 42-year-old was discovered unconscious in the city centre with a mysterious head injury and was promptly rushed to hospital in the early hours of Friday morning.

He is now in a high dependency unit with swelling to his brain and two shattered eye sockets as his family rushed to his beside, Dublin Live report s.

They believe he was separated from pals while out drinking with friends and was later found on the ground in The Strand area in the city at around 3.40am with his phone and wallet missing.

Merseyside police have scoured CCTV footage of the area and have appealed for witnesses with more information to come forward.

They said: "Maybe you were driving past or saw an incident around this time? Any information, no matter how small, could assist us in piecing together what has happened to this man."

His family are preparing to spend several weeks in the area as he is treated by doctors.

They say he is responding well to treatment.

Thousands have been raised for the dad through a GoFundMe  which was set up to help with the medical costs as well as accommodation for his family in Liverpool.

People have urged Robert 'keep fighting' as he recovers from the incident.

One said: "Total shock hearing this news, please god your on the road to recovery Rob. Sending our love."

Another wrote: "Thinking of you , nothing but love for you , keep fighting brother."
