Dad discovers he has cancer after going for routine eye exam at opticians

A dad discovered he had cancer after going for a routine eye appointment.

Opticians told the man, who only wishes to be referred to as Jamie, his eyes were bleeding and sent him to hospital.

Tests there showed the father-of-one had chronic lymphocytic leukemia .

And, as Cambridge News says, the cancer has since spread to other parts of his body, including his brain.

Jamie has started chemotherapy and is on steroids to try and fight off the cancer.

"Jamie is a fighter and he will beat this. After his chemo and when he is feeling better I would like to take him away for a little family holiday any little donation will help a lot," his fiance Zoe wrote on a fundraising website.

"He has a beautiful baby boy to fight for. Jamie is strong and I'm praying that he will beat this horrible disease."

Jamie's family, of Cambridge, want to raise money to help him through the treatment.

More than £300 has been donated so far.

Chronic lymphocytic leukemia affects white blood cells. It typically affects people over the age of 60 and is rare in people under 40.

The spongy material found inside some bones (bone marrow) produces too many white blood cells called lymphocytes, which are not fully developed and do not work properly, the NHS website explains.

Symptoms include night sweats, getting infections often and unintentional weight loss.
