Dad dies in motorcycle crash two years after wife and daughter were killed in car crash

A motorcyclist has died in a crash two years after his wife and daughter were killed when their car plunged into a water-filled ditch.

Paul Bunyan, 56, died when his motorbike left a rural road in Stanford, Beds at around 2.40pm on Sunday.

His death comes after wife Marion, 54, and daughter Jennifer, 24, who was almost seven months pregnant with a girl named Erin, died in an accident in June 2020.

They were killed when a silver Nissan Qashqai driven by Jennifer veered off the road and landed upside down in a water-filled ditch in Ramsey, Cambs.

Paul, an engineer, was married for 30 years to Marion, who worked as a special needs teaching assistant. The couple had three children together.

Paul's family said that he was "resolute on enjoying his life" despite being "devastated" by the loss of his wife, daughter and unborn granddaughter.

At the time, Paul said the family will "miss and love them terribly".

"Marion was my wife of 30 years and a mother of three,” he had said.

"She worked as a teaching assistant in the special educational needs department of Longsands College, where she was well liked and respected.

"She loved reading, gardening, cookery and travel. She leaves behind myself, her two other children and a grandchild - who love her and miss her terribly."

He added: "My daughter Jennifer worked as a school librarian until becoming a full-time mother to Oliver, now nearly three.

"She leaves behind her fiancé David, her son, and a family who love her and miss her terribly."

In a tribute released through police, Paul's family said: “We are mourning the loss of our father Paul.

"He was a loving son, father, and grandfather. Warm and outgoing he always enjoyed making others laugh.

“Following the death of his wife Marion, daughter Jennifer, and Jennifer’s unborn daughter Erin in a tragic accident in June 2020, dad, despite being devastated, remained resolute on enjoying his life and continued to follow his passions of motorcycling, photography, and music.

“He became a huge part of his grandson’s life and they never failed to make each other smile and laugh every day.

“He worked as an engineer at Anglian Water for nearly 20 years and is survived by his daughter, his son, his grandson, and both of his parents.”

DI Garry Webb, of Bedfordshire Police, said: “Our thoughts are with Mr Bunyan’s family and ask people to respect the privacy of the family at this difficult time.

“We are continuing to ask the public for information about this incident and would urge anyone who hasn’t come forward to get in touch.”
