The wife of a "caring and loving" dad who died in an e-scooter crash has shared her heartbreak over his death.
Stewart McGregor, 53, was rushed to hospital with a life-threatening head injury after coming off his e-scooter at a crossroads in Stevenage, Hertfordshire at 11pm on Friday, September 24.
Despite best efforts to save him the dad-of-one died of his injuries two days later.
Stewart's e-scooter was the only vehicle thought to be involved.
Nicky says her small family's lives are changed forever after Stewart "popped out" to see if their local petrol station had any fuel left.
She told Herts Live : "“I, our children and family are totally devastated that Stewart is no longer with us.
“He was a loving husband, son, brother, dad, uncle and friend, our lives will never be the same without him. He was such a caring, loving person.
“I am totally devastated that I won’t ever see him again, he had only popped out to see if the petrol garage had fuel."
Nicky also wanted to warn the public of the risks involved with riding one of the popular vehicles.
She added that Stewart was not wearing his helmet at the time of the crash.
“I would like to make others aware that these e-scooters can be so dangerous," she added.
“When Stew first got this scooter I didn’t really think much about it, nor did I ever think something like this would happen.
“Please, if you own one, wear a helmet, Stew used to wear his helmet, but on this particular night he went out without one.
“I hope no other family has to go through what we are all going through, please wear a helmet when necessary on a bicycle or scooter.”
Despite trials being held to assess whether Brits should be allowed to ride e-scooters in public - they are still illegal.
They can be used on private land, but they are considered powered transporters - meaning they're governed by the same laws as cars and motorbikes.
Police say they're still looking to speak to witnesses with relevant information.
Sergeant Sam Cordingley, of the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit, added: “Our thoughts remain with Stewart’s family at this difficult time. We would politely request that their privacy is respected.
“We continue to investigate the incident and would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision, or the moments prior to it, who has not already come forward, to contact us.
“If you have a dash cam fitted to your vehicle and were travelling in the area at the time of the collision, please review your footage to see if you have captured anything of note.”
