Dad devastated when he returns home from first chemotherapy session

A dad was left devastated when he returned home from his first chemotherapy session to find someone had stolen his bike.

Kenny Bragg, from Claughton, Wirral, was told he had stage four bowel and liver cancer just two months ago and was told he had to start and intensive course of treatment or he would die with in a year.

The 55-year-old told the ECHO his bike, a silver Boardman Comp with red markings, had become his lifeline over lockdown and he was hoping to use it during his treatment to stay fit enough to cope with the chemotherapy.

Kenny, dad to Rachel, 31, and Charlotte, 25, said: "There is a communal bike store in the flats I live in, but I had been keeping my bike in my flat.

"When I got diagnosed I wanted the flat to look nice, so I started putting it back in the store.

"I went for my first chemo session - and I had been very anxious about it - but I felt good coming back.

"Then I saw that my bike had been stolen."

Kenny's brother, Paul, 51, said he was sickened to hear about his brother's bike being stolen, he said: "Kenny has been so brave starting his treatment, but when I rang him this morning he sounded so down about his bike.

"His bike became integral for his mental health in lockdown."

Kenny, who is a granddad to Hazel, five, and Oliver six, added: "I have loved going round the park with my grandson on his bike.

"And I had wanted to do more of that - even with my treatment, I only have a 40% survival rate."

Kenny's daughter Rachel said: "I am gutted for him, in the summer Oliver learnt how to ride a bike and this is what we wanted to do more of.

"And it would have been so good for his mental health."
