Dad collapses and dies of heart attack at daughter's wedding rehearsal dinner

A man has died after collapsing while performing on stage on the night before his daughter's wedding.

P Vishnuprasad, 55, from Kerala, south India, was tapping his foot and swaying to the tunes as he was singing 'Raakili Ponmagale' - a song sung by a father for his daughter in the hit Malayalam film ‘Amaram’.

At some point, he fell off the stage to his right in front of shocked guests.

Vishnuprasad, a sub-inspector at the Kerala Police, was rushed to hospital where doctors said he had suffered a suspected cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead.

His daughter, Archa, was told that her father had fallen ill but was recovering at the hospital.

According to The News Minute, the family members decided to keep the news a secret until Archa got married on Sunday.

As she got married to her groom, Vishnuprasad, who shares the same name as her father, at Durgadevi temple in Kollam, her family members did not inform her of her father's death.

Archa was allegedly told on Monday before her father's cremation.

Her family told her it would have been what he would have wanted.

Vishnuprasad reportedly had a year left in service before his retirement next year.

Expressing grief over Vishnuprasad's death, Pinarayi Vijayan, the chief minister of Kerala, said: "I deeply condole the death of sub-inspector Vishnuprasad.

"It is extremely sad to learn that he collapsed while singing on the eve of his daughter's wedding. I extend my condolences to his family members and relatives."
